The Coffee Giant is Going Strawless

Starbucks has announced that they will be eliminating all single-use plastic straws on a global scale by 2020. Now you must be wondering, "but Alfred how am I going to drink my iced coffee without a straw", well let me tell you. Starbucks is in the works of designing a strawless lid for all its ice coffee, tea and espresso drinks, so you can wipe away those tears because you can still enjoy those icy cold drinks AND be environmentally conscious.

Starbucks is the largest food and beverage retailer to make such a global commitment, and just so you understand the sheer amount of straws we're looking at here that would mean that they would be eliminating the use of over 1 billion (yes BILLION) straws per year from their stores.

They will also be looking into alternative material straws such as paper or compostable plastic to be available by request for customers who need straws. This of course is pending successful pilots that are currently being run.

This is a huge change on a global scale and the hope here is that other food and beverage giants follow suit.
