Coffee of the Week: Blue Penguin Coffee's Costa Rica Las Lajas

The Company

Blue Penguin Coffee was established last year in Minnesota. Focusing on creating an authentic experience, they work on creating a feeling of comfort when drinking coffee rather than just any generic coffee. Their main coffee philosophy was and still is that each cup be carefully brewed by hand for the customer, to ensure a rich experience.

The coffee roaster they partnered with to provide this rich experience provides them with 100% Organic Shade Grown Coffee. Not only that, but they also give back to the earth by ensuring that the coffee being made is carbon negative, which helps reduce their carbon footprint on the earth.

All in all, the company is fixated on maintaining a standard of quality with their coffee while also ensuring that what they are doing helps the community around them; whether it is in Minnesota or the coffee world.

The Coffee

Upon opening the bag of Costa Rica Las Lajas you are engulfed in an aroma of fruit and coffee. A rich flavor of strawberry, that subtly lingers on the pallet, and a honey-like sweetness that allows for a long, sweet finish. The toffee undertone offers a rich base, allowing for a smooth after taste. Overall the coffee had a full body, sweet flavor and a smooth finish.

Rating: It was Bold.
